a new golden gorp blend

bags of golden gorp with a scoop and bowl of ready to eat trail mix

The thumbs up favorite on our most recent winter race was this new golden gorp blend. The mix is bit more sophisticated than the traditional “Good Old Raisins and Peanuts” of my childhood. The added dried fruit flavors and quality of nut ingredients gives it an upgrade in deliciousness. Besides the cost benefit of making your own trail mix, the dried fruit will be softer and the overall flavor more intense in this sweet golden gorp blend. I use Feridies Virginia Peanuts for this recipe and they are worth the hunt. If you want to make a baked trail mix try this sweet + salty trail mix.

golden gorp

Serves: Makes 5½ cups

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Virginia roasted peanuts
  • ½ cup honey-roasted peanuts
  • 1 cup salted Marcona almonds
  • ½ cup dried apricots, diced into small chunks
  • ½ cup dried pineapple, diced into small chunks
  • ½ cup crystallized ginger, diced into small chunks
  • ½ cup golden raisins

Instructions

1

Measure the peanuts and almonds into a medium bowl.

2

Dice the dried fruit and add to the nuts. Mix until well blended.

3

Store in an airtight container.

Notes

Tip: If you can’t find the dried fruit already diced, sprinkle a little granulated sugar over the fruit you've sliced and mix it to coat the raw edges to keep the fruit from sticking to itself.
