Its getting dark and stormy. The barometer is falling and the wind is whistling through the rigging. Best hunker down with a good book or perhaps propose a card game to your crew. It’s time to bring out the dark rum. A dark and stormy is the perfect sipping drink to prime the pump for an evening of swapping sea stories. To properly prepare this drink, you float the rum on top to mimic a stormy sky. Enjoy the official drink of Bermuda.

Print Recipe
Serves: 1 Cooking Time: 5 minutes


  • 2 ounces dark rum
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • 5 ounces ginger beer
  • garnish: lime wedge



Fill a highball glass with ice.


Squeeze a wedge of lime over the ice.


Add ginger beer leaving room for the rum.


Top with rum to create the dark cloudy effect and slip a slice of lime on the rim of the glass.


Stir before drinking.
